Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. As a student DuVernay became interested in producing for broadcast journalism. She was an intern with CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to watch the home of one member of the jury as well as examine their junk. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied with journalism so she decided to shift her focus towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay began her first position as a publicist in a small production studio right after she graduated from school. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was created in 1999.
